Research Presentations at JSME Thermal Engineering Conference 2025

Two research results were presented at the Thermal Engineering Conference 2025 of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, held in Yamagata City on October 4-5.

・Investigation of mist cooling impact on heat exchanger performance based on experimental and numerical simulation studies

Co-authors: Takumi Kobayashi (Science Tokyo), Koudai Nakagawa, Masahiko Hamaguchi (Komatsu), Akira Sumitani, Takushi Saito (Science Tokyo)

To improve the cooling performance of radiators, this study investigated the effect of mist cooling on the heat exchanger performance.
The results confirmed that mist cooling is an effective method, and guidelines were obtained to maximize its potential.

・Measurement of thermal contact resistance modeling shrink-fitted laminated core in electric motor

Presenter: Akira Minamiura (Komatsu) – pictured right
Co-authors: Masaki Yamanaka (Komatsu), Akira Sumitani, Takushi Saito (Science Tokyo)

To provide cost-effectiveness indicators for improvement conditions of shrink-fit laminated core sections with high thermal resistance, thermal resistance was experimentally measured.
The insights gained from this study are expected to be incorporated into the early stages of motor design, enabling front-loading of thermal design for electric motors.

We will apply the feedback received from these presentations to further our research and contribute to the advancement of high-performance and carbon-free machines.
