Science Tokyo-Komatsu Collaborative Research Meeting Held for the 21st Time

The Science Tokyo-Komatsu Collaborative Research Meeting was held on August 22, 2025, at the Ookayama Campus.

From Komatsu, Director and CTO Kusaba led a delegation that included general managers of various development centers and other engineers and researchers engaged in R&D. From Science Tokyo, Executive Vice President Hatano and Director of the Institute of New Industry Incubation Nakamura were in attendance, along with faculty members and students involved in joint research projects. A large number of people, including online participants, attended this event.

Part 1 was conducted in a presentation format in the conference room.

In the opening remarks, CTO Kusaba introduced Komatsu's mid-term management plan and future vision, while EVP Hatano presented Science Tokyo's three visions and a new vision-driven framework - Visionary Initiatives (VIs) - that will realize them. There was strong agreement that Science Tokyo shares a high degree of affinity with Komatsu, which aims to “create value through manufacturing and technology innovation to empower a sustainable future where people, businesses, and our planet thrive together.” Science Tokyo, meanwhile, seeks to "create value through the power of science to realize a better life, a better society and a better planet, and a better, brighter future." This alignment was noted as highly synergistic.

This was followed by research reports on 12 themes, which led to lively discussions and active exchanges of opinions.

Part 2 was a poster session held in a different venue. In front of each poster, researchers engaged in deeper discussions, gaining various insights and suggestions.

There was a pleasant surprise during the reception. Former Komatsu Collaborative Research Center Director and current President and Chief Executive Officer Ohtake made a surprise appearance.

President Ohtake offered words of thanks and encouragement to all attendees and those involved. This was a great source of encouragement for everyone, renewing our commitment to producing even better results in the future.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 24.
